We want to offer our congratulations to one of our partners, Barry B. McGough, for receiving one of the most distinguished awards an attorney can receive. Mr. McGough was awarded the Martindale-Hubbell® AV Preeminent Judicial Edition Award. Martindale-Hubbell® is one of the largest and most comprehensive sources of lawyer ratings in the world, and it has a long history of featuring the best attorneys in the field.
It promotes the rating of lawyers based on their peer’s opinions and observations. For example, lawyers in family law will evaluate other family law attorneys according to their observations of the practitioner’s General Ethical Standards and Legal Ability. If a divorce lawyer, observed another attorney expertly advising his or her client on a complicated legal matter, that first attorney would rate the nominee highly on professional standard of conduct. Legal Ability also includes legal knowledge, analytical capability, judgment, communication skills, and experience.
Lawyers will judge their peers based on a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being the lowest. Those given a 4.5 or higher are given an AV Preeminent® rating. However, for those few excellent lawyers who receive a 5 in both areas, they receive what’s known as the Martindale-Hubbell® AV Preeminent Judicial Edition Award. This allows other attorneys and potential clients to see that they are looking at a lawyer who can’t rate higher on professional, ethical behavior and legal knowledge in his or her field.
Barry B. McGough has been practicing for several decades and is a former chairman of the State Bar Family Law Section, which gave him its own Professionalism Award for his exceptional contributions in family law. He has also been recognized with several other awards, such as being listed as 2017 “Best Lawyers” by Listed Lawyers and a “Super Lawyer” by Atlanta Magazine. We offer our congratulations on your outstanding achievements.
